JUST THINK...

Is not God in the height of heaven? and behold the stars, how high they are! (Job 22:12)

God created the universe in 6 days, by speaking it into existence by His Word:

For [in] six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them [is], and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. (Exodus 20:11)

It is believed that there are over 100 billion galaxies in the universe, with an average of nearly one hundred billion stars each. Of course, nobody really knows exactly how many there are. But it is an acknowledgment that there are limitless numbers of them. That's galaxies, not just the stars within them! Astronomic groups of globular clusters, stars, planets, quasars, black holes, super novae and other celestial bodies that are thousands of light years in size and several million light years apart in some cases. And if there are so many galaxies, how many stars and other bodies can their possibly be that make up the galaxies?

God created those within a 6-day timeframe and then rested on the 7th day, just as we continue to have a 7-day week today. As time was from the beginning, so it is now.

Now think in the other direction for a moment. Instead of looking "out there" at the stars and galaxies that require powerful telescopes to view, what about all of the smallest particles of matter that can only be detected by the most powerful microscopes, or by a particle accelerator/collider? Molecules. Atoms. Protons, electrons and neutrons. Quarks. Muons. What else? Mankind has discovered smaller and smaller particles. All of the minuscule building blocks of matter that are far too small to be seen by the natural eye without advanced technological assistance. Some of them are so small they can only be indirectly detected.

How many of these infinitesimal particles are there in this vast universe of over a hundred billion galaxies? How many atoms? How many protons, electrons and neutrons must there be to make up all of the physical elements? More than the grains of sand on the seashore and in the sea? More than the number of water molecules in the oceans? Yes, of course, countless multitudes more on the order of near-infinity.

God created every single molecule, atom, proton, electron and neutron (and anything smaller), each with its purpose in the larger scheme of things. Do they have a smaller purpose for which we are unaware? Regardless, not one of those were created without God. There was not just some coincidental Big Bang, as many contend. It was God as He spoke creation into being. And, as they exist, there is not one that escapes His control or His notice at any moment in time. There is not one tiny little proton that is somewhere "in the back of God's mind," so to speak. God knows everything all at once with full focus and consciousness, without having to "multi-task" and get distracted like we do. He doesn't temporarily forget about any of them, not even one, not even for a moment, of the infinite number of those basic elements of matter in all of the universe of billions upon billions (or more) galaxies. And He doesn't have to keep notes or a computer, He never becomes confused or disorganized, He doesn't need to "keep track" of them like we might (if we could).

Think about how those small building blocks of matter are arranged to form whatever physical substance they make up. They exist individually as particles and corporately as some substance, altogether making up the largest objects in the universe. Consider some random things (keeping in mind that nothing is random with or to God): a microorganism, a grain of sand, a chipped piece of plaster on the floor, a tiny piece of broken glass, a window pane, a bottle of shampoo, a sheet of paper and ink, a colorful butterfly wing, an ugly tarantula, an elephant's ear, a vast forest, a desert, a canyon, an ocean replete with marine life, a complex planet, a Red Giant -- whatever -- you name it. Everything you can possibly name that exists is made from many of those small, tiny particles. And God knows and controls every single particle of matter, at any fraction of a moment, and how it works individually and corporately in its various contexts, all throughout time.

Then there are people, groups of people, nations of people, billions of them. They are all made of the elements of matter and given the breath of life, each with a name.

To take it a step further, most things in this creation have three-dimensions. God knows, sees and controls everything from every single dimension and angle. A tree, for example, can be seen from above, or below (under the ground where its root system reaches), from the inside (where is the system of sap feeding the tree, and the chlorophyll in the leaves). It can be seen from the left side, the right side, the front, the back ... from the right front, left front, right rear, left rear. It can be seen from the ground, from 1 foot off the ground ... all the way to the top. If we were to thoroughly study that tree, we would cover every inch of it from every aspect. And every single angle possible of that one tree, inside and out, God created, knows about and controls at every moment. Not one of these angles are "in the back of his mind" or forgotten even for a moment -- God knows that tree as intimately as is possible even moreso than if we were to spend a thousand years studying everything we could about just that one tree.

And yet -- that's just one measly tree. Now apply that to everything in the world and in the universe. Every grain of sand, every molecule of ocean water, every microorganism, every tree, every animal, every person -- every particle of matter in space, every star, every planet, every galaxy -- both on an individual level and all of the possible combination of corporate relationships between them (and multiple corporate relationships). God knows and controls it all, and not one single angle of any single element, not one single action taken by an element or group of elements or their larger corporate structures, is ever in the back of his mind or forgotten even for a moment!

Now think of everything that God has created and that has existed throughout time. Throughout time, all of these particles of matter, individually and corporately, have existed and moved and formed some larger substance or substances with their individual and corporate purposes from every single angle: inside, outside, front, back, right, left, above, below, etc, etc -- throughout all of time since creation. And God sees all of that throughout all of time and never forgets even the tiniest event, the smallest particle, from every angle, at every instance.

God not only sees, knows, remembers, owns and controls all things in the present, but all things past, present and future, down to the smallest fraction of a moment to the greatest epoch, and all at once throughout the entire universe and more. Even if time were to be entirely frozen or accelerated to the nth degree, God would not be in any way impacted by it. And nothing is ever forgotten or "put aside" for "memory recall" in His mind like we have to do with puny things.

This might be about as much as we can fathom, but there's still far more than this because God is infinitely beyond our meager concept of "infinity times infinity." God is beyond any concept of infinity we might imagine, no matter how high. He is from everlasting to everlasting, and this physical creation in all of its incredible vastness, and the spiritual worlds which we know nothing or very little about, as well as all of the other creations He has made that we know nothing about ... all of these things we have just considered, everything that has been mentioned above ... is yet but an infinitesimal, minuscule thought compared to the actual reality of God. The thoughts above haven't even begun to scratch the surface of the full nature of God.

Have you not known? Have you not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, faints not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. (Isaiah 40:28)

For [as] the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. (Isaiah 55:9)

Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee. (Jeremiah 32:17)

So just think ... we can't even come close to imagining how infinite God and His Word truly is, even as we ponder the apparent infinite nature of our creation and how God has every minute detail of it in mind, throughout all of time, at all times, from every possible perspective! The creation is still finite compared to God -- and very finite at that. Only God is infinite. Next time you view the vast expanse of this earth ... consider it!

Lastly, we must also keep in mind that just as God spoke this creation into being in 6 days, He will command its destruction by fire on the last day to make way for the new heavens and new earth, which will be even far greater than the present one!

But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. [Seeing] then [that] all these things shall be dissolved, what manner [of persons] ought ye to be in [all] holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwells righteousness. (2 Peter 3:10-13)
