AND you _hath_ _he_ _quickened_, who were dead in trespasses and sins; ^1
Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience: ^2
Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. ^3
But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, ^4
Even when we were dead in sins, has quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) ^5
And has raised _us_ up together, and made _us_ sit together in heavenly _places_ in Christ Jesus: ^6
That in the ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of his grace in _his_ kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. ^7
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: _it_ _is_ the gift of God: ^8
Not of works, lest any man should boast. ^9
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God has before ordained that we should walk in them. ^10
Wherefore remember, that ye _being_ in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands; ^11
That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world: ^12
But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. ^13
For he is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of partition _between_ _us;_ ^14
Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, _even_ the law of commandments _contained_ in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, _so_ making peace; ^15
And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby: ^16
And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh. ^17
For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father. ^18
Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; ^19
And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner _stone;_ ^20
> This verse, like [1 Timothy 3:15](1%20Timothy%203.md#^15), is a testing verse where one could read from the grammar that the foundation is speaking of the apostles and prophets. However, that is impossible as God has said [1 Corinthians 3:11](1%20Corinthians%203.md#^11) that no other foundation can be laid other than the Lord Jesus Christ. So the correct understanding of this verse is to read it as that the foundation of the apostles and prophets IS the Lord Jesus Christ, Himself being the Chief Cornerstone. Any other rendering gives the church, the apostles and prophets, some implicit authority alongside the Lord Jesus.

In whom all the building fitly framed together grows unto an holy temple in the Lord: ^21
In whom ye also are built together for an habitation of God through the Spirit. ^22
