>
> The word *Gentiles* refers to the nations of the world. So now God is expanding His judgments upon the nations as judgment begins with the house of God but is then passed on to the whole world. ^jer46-1

> For the first few years from the death of Josiah, Israel was under the heel of Egypt (representing the world), then Babylon took over (representing the wrath of God against them). ^jer46-2

> The buckler has to do with the soldier who is carrying a shield ahead of the warrior to give protection to the one who is fighting, like we see with Goliath in [1 Samuel 17:41](1%20Samuel%2017.md#^41). To furbish the sword means to polish it or to shine it up for the battle. And the brigandines is the armor that the warriors would wear.

> So God is saying here to get ready for the battle. ^jer46-3-4

> [Jeremiah 46:5](Jeremiah%2046.md#^5) note

> Fear, or terror, being round about is found several times, particularly in the book of Jeremiah. And every time it is pointing to when God has begun His judgment. Now, the world doesn't know yet the terror they are under, but nevertheless it is there while the true believers recognize the fact we are headed right for Judgment Day. The picture here can be summed up when looking at [Revelation 20:7](Revelation%2020.md#^7), [8](Revelation%2020.md#^8), [9](Revelation%2020.md#^9). The nations of the world are being prepared for their final battle, spiritually called the Battle of Armageddon, where Christ separates the sheep from the goats or the wheat from the tares during the Final Gospel Call. And all who are opposed to Christ will be under destruction as they witness the Truth of the Word of God through the elect who are in the army of Christ and are singing praises to God. And the nations will be angry, but they are doomed because they are under the wrath of God ([Rev 11:18](Revelation%2011.md#^18)).
