> Verse 1 opens with, "THE word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD..." But, as we go through the next several verses, where is the Word coming from? It's coming from the captain of the guard, from Nebuzar-adan. From this we can understand why Jeremiah remained in the land. He had received a message from God, but it was through a most unusual source for that message to come, given that Nebuzar-adan is Nebuchadnezzar's spokesman, who represents Satan. This reminds us of the wonderful messages that came through Balaam, that wicked soothsayer who wanted to destroy Israel.
>
> When we look at God's larger plan, we find there were 2 noteworthy prophets in that day. One, of course, was Jeremiah who was the Word of God to anyone who remained in Jerusalem in rebellion against God. That was his task, even though it was a terrible, difficult task that went on for 40 years. So Jeremiah stuck with his task to remain with those who had rebelled against God.
>
> The other prophet who ministered to those who went out of Judah was Ezekiel. During the last 6 years he ministered to those who were taken captive into Babylon.
