And they that handle the law knew me not: the pastors also transgressed against me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal and walked after _things_ _that_ do not profit. ^8 9 ¶ Therefore I will yet plead with you, declares the LORD, and with your children's children will I plead. ^9 [10&#8599;](Jeremiah%202%20FSI.md#^jer2-10) For pass over the isles of Chittim, and see; and send to Kedar, and consider diligently, and see if there is such a thing. ^10 [11&#8599;](Jeremiah%202%20FSI.md#^jer2-11) Has a nation changed _their_ gods, which _are_ yet no gods? But my people have changed their glory for _that_ _which_ does not profit. ^11 [12&#8599;](Jeremiah%202%20FSI.md#^jer2-12) Be astonished, O Heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid, be very desolate, declares the LORD. ^12 [13&#8599;](Jeremiah%202%20FSI.md#^jer2-13) For my people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, the Fountain of living waters, _and_ _they_ _have_ hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water. ^13 [14&#8599;](Jeremiah%202%20FSI.md#^jer2-14) ¶ _Is_ Israel a servant? _Is_ he a homeborn _slave?_ Why is he spoiled? ^14 [15&#8599;](Jeremiah%202%20FSI.md#^jer2-15) The young lions roared upon him, _and_ yelled, and they made his land waste: his cities are burned without inhabitant. ^15 [16&#8599;](Jeremiah%202%20FSI.md#^jer2-16) Also the children of Noph and Tahapanes have broken the crown of your head. ^16 [17&#8599;](Jeremiah%202%20FSI.md#^jer2-17) Have you not procured this to yourself in that you have forsaken the LORD your God when he led you by the way? ^17 [18&#8599;](Jeremiah%202%20FSI.md#^jer2-18) And now what have you to do in the way of Egypt, to drink the waters of Sihor? Or what have you to do in the way of Assyria to drink the waters of the river? ^18 [19&#8599;](Jeremiah%202%20FSI.md#^jer2-19) Your own wickedness shall correct you, and your backslidings shall reprove you: know therefore and see that _it_ _is_ an evil _thing_, and bitter, that you have forsaken the LORD your God, and that my fear _is_ not in you, declares the Lord GOD of hosts. ^19 [20&#8599;](Jeremiah%202%20FSI.md#^jer2-20) ¶ For of old time I have broken your yoke _and_ burst your bands; and you said, I will not transgress; when upon every high hill and under every green tree you wandered, playing the harlot. ^20 [21&#8599;](Jeremiah%202%20FSI.md#^jer2-21) Yet I had planted you a noble vine, wholly a right seed: how then are you turned into the degenerate plant of a strange vine to me? ^21 [22&#8599;](Jeremiah%202%20FSI.md#^jer2-22) For though you wash yourself with nitre, and take you much soap, _yet_ your iniquity is marked before me, declares the Lord GOD. ^22 [23&#8599;](Jeremiah%202%20FSI.md#^jer2-23) How can you say, I am not polluted, I have not gone after Baalim? See your way in the valley, know what you have done: _you_ _are_ a swift dromedary traversing her ways; ^23 [24&#8599;](Jeremiah%202%20FSI.md#^jer2-24) A wild ass used to the wilderness, _that_ snuffs up the wind at her pleasure; in her occasion who can turn her away? All they that seek her will not weary themselves; in her month they shall find her. ^24 [25&#8599;](Jeremiah%202%20FSI.md#^jer2-25) Withhold your foot from being unshod and your throat from thirst: But you said, There is no hope: no; for I have loved strangers, and after them will I go. ^25 [26&#8599;](Jeremiah%202%20FSI.md#^jer2-26) As the thief is ashamed when he is found, so is the house of Israel ashamed; they, their kings, their princes, their priests and their prophets, ^26 [27&#8599;](Jeremiah%202%20FSI.md#^jer2-27) Saying to a stock, You _are_ my father; and to a stone, You have brought me forth: for they have turned _their_ back to me, and not _their_ face: but in the time of their trouble they will say, Arise, and save us. ^27 [28&#8599;](Jeremiah%202%20FSI.md#^jer2-28) But where _are_ your gods that you have made _for_ yourselves? Let them arise if they can save you in the time of your trouble: for _according_ _to_ the number of your cities are your gods, O Judah. ^28 [29&#8599;](Jeremiah%202%20FSI.md#^jer2-29) Why will ye plead with me? You all have transgressed against me, declares the LORD. ^29 [30&#8599;](Jeremiah%202%20FSI.md#^jer2-30) In vain have I smitten your children; they received no correction: your own sword has devoured your prophets like a destroying lion. ^30 [31&#8599;](Jeremiah%202%20FSI.md#^jer2-31) ¶ O you generation, see the word of the LORD. Have I been a wilderness to Israel, a land of darkness? Why say my people, We are lords; we will come no more to you? ^31 [32&#8599;](Jeremiah%202%20FSI.md#^jer2-32) Can a maid forget her ornaments, _or_ a bride her attire? Yet my people have forgotten me days without number. ^32 [33&#8599;](Jeremiah%202%20FSI.md#^jer2-33) Why do you amend your way to seek love? Therefore have you also taught the wicked ones your ways. ^33 [34&#8599;](Jeremiah%202%20FSI.md#^jer2-34) Also in your skirts is found the blood of the souls of the poor innocents: I have not found it by secret search, but upon all these. ^34 [35&#8599;](Jeremiah%202%20FSI.md#^jer2-35) Yet you say, Because I am innocent surely his anger shall turn from me. Behold, I will plead with you because you say, I have not sinned. ^35 [36&#8599;](Jeremiah%202%20FSI.md#^jer2-36) Why do you go about so much to change your way? You also shall be ashamed of Egypt as you were ashamed of Assyria. ^36 [37&#8599;](Jeremiah%202%20FSI.md#^jer2-37) Yea, you shall go forth from him _with_ your hands upon your head: for the LORD has rejected your confidences and you shalt not prosper in them. ^37 <br><br> Tags: #Old_Testament #Jeremiah #Gods_judgment_on_His_people
