> This was a lie from the serpent. God had declared they shall surely die if they ate of the tree ([Gen 2:17](Genesis%202.md#^17)). This was to deceive Eve (and Adam) into eating the forbidden fruit in rebellion against God. This is parallel to [Proverbs 21:6](Proverbs%2021.md#^6). The treasures gained by a lying tongue here in Genesis 3 is the forbidden fruit, and the result of it is death. ^gen3-4
> Genesis 4: Abel (meaning *breath*) typifies Christ, and Cain the sinful human race. Seth (meaning *substituted*) is a picture of the believer who has become saved through the substitutionary atonement of Christ.

> Dust points to the peoples of the world, particularly in this present world ([Gen 3:19](Genesis%203.md#^19), [18:27](Genesis%2018.md#^27)). And, of course, a great, great number beyond what we could count. ^gen13-16

> This speaks of Jacob's trouble (translated *distress* here in verse 3) when Jacob fled from Esau. See [Jeremiah 30:7](Jeremiah%2030.md#^7) -- Spiritually, near the end of time (which is our day), the believers (typified by Jacob) will be made to flee from the churches as the enemy (the unsaved human race as typified by Esau) come against them and overrun them. (See also [Ro 9:13](Romans%209.md#^13), [14](Romans%209.md#^14), [15](Romans%209.md#^15), [16](Romans%209.md#^16), [17](Romans%209.md#^17), [18](Romans%209.md#^18), where Jacob and Esau point to those whom God elects vs those who are non-elect). ^gen35-1-3

> This passage points to the victory of Christ vanquishing His enemies (the kingdom of Satan), as the Lion of the tribe of Judah ([Rev 5:5](Revelation%205.md#^5)), as the eternal King, as He suffered the wrath of God in providing us salvation (cp [v11](Genesis%2049.md#^11) with [Zech 9:9](Zechariah%209.md#^9); [Mt 21:5](Matthew%2021.md#^5)). ^gen49-8-12
